Based in Golden Bay, New Zealand. We are gateway to the Northern end of the Abel Tasman National Park.

  1. Senior Sea Kayak Guide and Operations Manager

This is a new role for the company, created with the intent to support leadership and growth in the Adventure Tourism Industry. Suitable for someone looking to make that next step on their journey in the industry, to develop their management skills, gain a greater insight into how a business runs and have input into day to day running and encouraged to initiate new ideas while being actively supported.

The position is suitable for someone who:

  • Has had several years experience in the Outdoor Industry, a passion for people, the environment and a desire to seek new challenges.

  • It is envisaged that the role will be 60%guiding and 40% operations

  • Seeks a desire for more responsibility, day to day operations, supporting a small team while ‘on the job’. Support can be given to gain NZIOA or other equivalent higher qualifications to encourage on going training.

  • Be available for the Staff Induction in November 2023.

You will need:

  • A current First Aid Certificate or PHEC

  • Sea Kayak Qualifications from NZ or International

  • Valid visa/work permit if you are from overseas

  • To be able to work with a small team and love people

  • Resume and relevant references

2. Sea Kayak Guide and/or Base Operations

Golden Bay Kayaks offers Guided Tours, Freedom Rentals and Stand Up Paddle Boards. We also have a reputation for the best coffee at Tata Beach and a popular spot to grab an ice cream.

For this position we are looking for a sea kayak guide and/or base operations.

For base operations you are required to

  • ensure the client is signed in,

  • life jackets are fitted correctly

  • a safety briefing is given to ensure the client has the best experience.

  • Being able to make a coffee is an advantage. On the job training available.

For sea kayak guide:

  • Preferably already has experience in the industry and has had experience sea kayak guiding.

  • Has knowledge or a desire to learn about NZ flora and fauna and has a passion for the outdoors.

  • Has an understanding of the weather and have sound knowledge of sea conditions.

  • Empathy for others and a desire to deliver an excellent product, with a can-do attitude

  • Be physically fit and be able to lift a sea kayak.

  • Preferably already have Sea Kayak Qualifications, not essential.

  • Competent in the sea kayak and be able to paddle a boat.

  • Be able to and be confident to self-rescue and rescue a double

  • Be able to roll a sea kayak and back into the upright position

  • Happy to display a surf landing and guide clients

  • Have a First Aid Qualification

  • If applying from overseas, a valid work visa.

  • Be available for Staff Induction

    For the suitable candidate:

  • On the job training and support.

  • Shared rental accomodation is available that is close to the base at Tata Beach

  • Flexibly with hours and time off, being a small team you will have others to consider.

3. Trainee Sea Kayak Guide

Are you an outdoor enthusiast with a passion for the sea and looking to kickstart your career in Adventure Tourism? Golden Bay Kayaks is offering a Sea Kayak Guide Trainee Program, specially curated for outdoor polytechnic students who are eager to strive in the industry of Adventure Tourism.

Suitable for:

  • Someone that has a passion for the industry and strives for excellence.

  • Has started their Outdoor Education journey and has completed a minimum of one year Tertiary Education and is currently intending to complete either a Diploma or Degree in Outdoor Education or has the intention to work in the industry.

  • That will commit to a minimum of 2 summers to Golden Bay Kayaks.

  • Has a passion to learn new skills, open to new ideas and a takes pride in delivering an excellent product.

  • This role includes heavy lifting at times, will need to be fit, healthy and enjoy working in the outdoors.

  • No day is the same, a need for flexibility, enjoy working in a small team you where you will build strong, genuine connections with your colleagues.

    For the suitable candidate:

  • On the job training and support, this includes experiences on and off the water. With focus on both soft and hard skill aspects of the job.

  • Shared rental accomodation is available

  • A customised and flexible training package will be created together. This training package may include subsidised NZIOA qualifications, outsourced training and coaching with the intention that this program will integrate with the course that is currently being completed.

  • Be available for staff induction

  • Have a current First Aid Qualification.
