Kayaks available by the hour, half day and full day.

We have several types of kayak for day hire, enclosed sea kayaks and open sit-on-tops. You can see the picture of the each types or kayak on the Price section on the bottom of this page. ( Price includes safety briefing and all kayaking gear).



Tata Islands, start of Abel Tasman

Taupo Point


Stunning and varied scenery in a short and easy paddle from Tata beach provides a great taste of paddling this magical coastline.

- Explore Tata Islands (start of Abel Tasman National Park) home to New Zealands largest colony of spotted shags nesting in the limestone cliffs.

- Paddle round awesome rock formations at Abel Tasman Point, including archways and caves.

- Cruise into Wainui lagoon (high tide) or Wainui Bay where you can look for stingrays and other sea life.

- Picnic or sunbathe on gorgeous secluded beaches or continue into the National Park coastline as far as Taupo Point.

- Suitable for families and people with no previous kayaking experience, safety instruction, safety gear and map provided.


Bring snacks, lunch, drinks, swimming costume, towels and other gear to enjoy the beach time. We have lots of space in sea kayaks and we can provide you waterproof bags for sit-on-top kayaks.

For those who want an friendly experienced guide who will fill you in on local history, show you some interesting hidden spots and help look after your safety, our Half Day Guided Tour is available.

What to bring:
Warm windproof top, swimming costume, towel, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, drink, snack or lunch, camera (water proof bag will be provided). Shorts and shoes that can get wet (no jeans).


Other options:
Kayaks can also be taken away for use at other beaches or estuaries (e.g. Totaranui, Wanganui Inlet) for day or multi day hire.

Kids kayaks:
Available from Pohara Beach. Fun for the whole family. During the peak summer season, we operate from Pohara Camp. At other times avairable from our Pohara Base.




Prices for 2010/2011

A minimum number of 2 people is required. Start from Tata or Pohara Beach. Price includes full safety briefing, kayaks and all kayak gear.
